THE votes are in, and we can now reveal the Journal's pub of the year 2022!

From delicious pub grub to wonderful customer service, over the last few months you have been telling us all about your favourite watering holes and why.

More than 300 votes were cast, but it was The Ship Inn in Burcombe that has secured the all-important title.

A pub, buried in the picturesque village just outside Wilton, was taken over by husband and wife Andy and Egija Caston.

After running a successful pub in France for over a decade, the pair returned to England to dedicate themselves to their old favourite country pub.

On receiving the special accolade, Andy said: “What an amazing and unexpected achievement. We feel very honoured to win this award after such a short time in business."

The couple has received a framed certificate outlining their win, which means they are able to officially mark their fan-favourite status within the hostelry.

Winchester Gate and the Ox Row, both in Salisbury, and The Goat in Downton were just some of the other Pub of the Year contenders.

Andy added: "We would like to thank all of our loyal customers for taking the time to vote for us and also congratulate all of the pubs who made the shortlist.”
