WORK by one of Britain’s best loved artists is on display at Mottisfont near Romsey this summer.

Drawings by Quentin Blake, who illustrated Roald Dahl’s books, are on show as part of an exhibition celebrating art for children.

The exhibition includes 21 new drawings that Blake produced for the hit West End production Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Also on display are pictures by other well-known children’s illustrators Oliver Jeffers, Michael Foreman, Emma Chichester Clark and Helen Oxenbury, who illustrated the popular story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.

The work on show has been loaned to Mottisfont by the Chris Beetles Gallery in London.

Curator Louise Govier said: “These really are some of the best illustrators working today and it’s fascinating to contrast how differently they all use pictures to tell stories.

“We are so excited to be showing Quentin Blake’s work here this summer.

“So many of us have wonderful memories of discovering his books and how he brought Roald Dahl’s stories to life.

“His new work is just as fresh and funny.”

Special weekends are being held at Mottisfont throughout August, with visiting authors and the chance to make the biggest ever picture book.

The exhibition opens on July 19 and Mottisfont is open every day from 10am to 5pm.
