PAINTERS, sculptors and mixed material artists of all ages headed to the Cathedral cloisters on Saturday for the annual Paint Off.

This is the fifth year the live art event has been held and it attracted more than 50 artists over the course of the day.

Organiser Paul Fenwick said: “My overall aim is to encourage people to come together for one day a year as art tends to be a solitary activity.

“It is also very liberating for many people to be creative in public and not to be so precious about their work.

“Many artists discover that this perceived risk factor can be surprisingly inspiring rather than intimidating.

“As the event was held on a busy Saturday, we also got a lot of additional interest from visitors to the cathedral and the craft and heritage fayre.”

All forms of art are welcome at the event and the artists have five hours to create a finished piece.

An auction of the works produced on the day was due to be held at Salisbury Arts Centre last night after the Journal went to press.

From any sales, 50 per cent of the funds will go to the artist and 50 per cent towards Plain Arts projects.
