WINTERBOURNE Opera (WBO) is celebrating the success of its previous young soloists by inviting them back to sing at a fundraising supper in the Glebe Hall on Saturday.
The group will be singing their favourite arias and duets from Winterbourne’s past operas. Among those returning is Gareth Huw John, who had the lead role in Winterbourne’s 2009 production of Elixir and since leaving has sung chorus at Glyndebourne since and also as a soloist in an English National Opera production at the Colliseum.
Vanessa Bower is also a familiar and popular singer with Salisbury audiences having appeared in four Winterbourne operas.
Vanessa has since had a starring role as Tiny in Paul Bunyan in the Millennium Centre, Cardiff last summer and has been performing a challenging role by Berio under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle in Lucerne this summer.
Christina Petrou, who performed the role of Adina in WBO’s 2009 production of Elixir and was a soloist at Grange Park this summer will also be singing along with WBO’s 2014 Adina, Fran Aquilina. Arthur Bell, who was half of the Figaro piano duet, will be accompanist for the evening.
Tickets for the event, which starts at 7pm for 7.30pm, are £20 (to include a three- course supper and a small auction of promises) from Mandy Hollywood on 01722 324737.
