DIE FLEDERMAUS

Salisbury Playhouse

DRINKS play a huge part in Die Fledermaus.

A swig of spirit or wine is all part of the plot for the various characters in this highly amusing 19th century operetta by Johann Strauss, but there is no denying the champagne finish of this highly polished performance that Celebrate Voice has brought to Salisbury’s Medieval Hall.

Lynsey Docherty, the inspiration behind Celebrate Voice, plays Rosalinde von Eisenstein, the mistress of the house. She is being pursued by Alfred while her husband Gabriel prepares for an eight-day jail sentence.

Die Fledermaus uses the comical ingredients of double entendre, misunderstandings, deceit and drunken debauchery to weave a final act of revenge on Rosalinde’s cheating husband.

The trickster behind it all is Dr Falke, a so-called friend, who persuades Gabriel to have a final night of fun before he is locked up.

The very best in singing talent accompanied by pianist Phillip Thomas – “the orchestra for the night” – helps make this a spectacle not to be missed. Final performances are tonight and Saturday 7.30pm.

Tickets are £30 from salisburyplayhouse.com or 01722 320333.
