SALISBURY Community Choir (SCC) raised a fantastic £704 to help support servicemen and women and their families.
The money was raised for SSAFA during a moving remembrance concert in Wilton on Saturday, November 8.
The choir performed to a full house in the church.
The 125 singers were all wearing red felt poppies made by members of the SCC for the special evening, which commemorated the centenary of the start of the First World War.
Jeremy Backhouse conducted a programme of music from composers including Karl Jenkins, John Rutter, Will Todd, Ward Swingle and Vangelis, and the choir was accompanied by organist David Coram.
To complement the music there were moving spoken words from works of poets and writers from the Great War era such as Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen.
Sue Rollo from Salisbury Division of SSAFA said: “We are very grateful that the Salisbury Community Choir chose us as the beneficiary of this special Remembrance Concert which will support our work helping local forces and ex-forces families and individuals in times of need.”
The SCC’s next appearance will be at its Sparkling Christmas Concert on Saturday, December 13, at Wilton Church, 7.30pm.
It is in aid of Homestart.
