I’M halfway through my panto tour 2014 and it’s been a good ’un.

From the moment the curtain went up my six-year-old son Robert and four-year-old grandson Taylor were entranced by Peter Pan, a lavish production which offered plenty of laughs and a super cast.

Mark Benton, (Strictly Come Dancing, Waterloo Road, Early Doors, Northern Lights, Nationwide Building Society ads) who played Captain Hook and Mr Darling, was excellent as the baddie, and you could feel people’s delight as they booed him with increasing abandon throughout the show.

Wave 105’s Kate Weston, who played Mrs Darling and the mermaid in Neverland, was as always – she’s in the Pavvy’s panto every year – fab and Blue Peter’s Barney Harwood (goodness, they’re young these days) proved a very popular Pan with the audience.

Wendy was great, and played her role convincingly and without squeaking and Tinkerbell was believable – which is lucky as you know the drill, fairies die if we don’t.

The show had been adapted to include all the kids’ favourite tunes including Pharrell Williams’s Happy and the jokes and physical humour came thick and fast, keeping all ages engaged.

I would only take issue with the long session after the story had been told – with young children we were ready to go after the final scene but as always at the Pavilion the audience were engaged in some participation while the stage was set for the finale number, seemingly for ages.
