SAXOPHONIST Andy Sheppard returns to Salisbury next week for a very special occasion.
For the first time in 20 years he will play with pianist Geoff Williams and bass player, Pete Maxfield, both Salisbury musicians, as jazz quartet Sphere re-forms.
Sphere was formed in Salisbury in 1976, where it quickly built-up an avid following.
They performed mainly original compositions and, though primarily labelled a jazz group, became popular with a broad fan base.
During the quartet's heyday, Sphere toured extensively playing festivals, concerts and jazz clubs as well as being regulars on BBC Radio 3, being named young jazz musicians of the year in 1981.
The concert on Friday, April 20, at the Blackledge Theatre, Godolphin School, marks Sphere's re-forming and will feature an evening of new and original compositions by Geoff Williams.
Support will come from Salisbury's Kings of Lounge and tickets are available from the tourist information centre in Salisbury.
