FOOT tappin’ classic Singin’ in the Rain is making a real splash at Salisbury Playhouse.

Based on the 1952 film starring Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds, this stage version is a magical, feel-good musical.

With an all singing, all dancing cast of 12 brilliant performers, who also play their own instruments.

Salisbury Journal:

Set in 1927, Singin’ in the Rain tells the story of how silent movies evolved into talkies.

Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are Hollywood’s golden couple of the silent movies, but off stage they can’t stand each other.

Matthew Croke is perfect for the part of Don, the handsome heartthrob of the silver screen, aloof to any romantic notions that Lina may have.

Sarah Vezmar plays the dumb blonde Lina brilliantly, nailing the squeaky New York drawl and putting the audience in fits of laughter.

More comic moments come from Christian Edwards as Don’s sidekick Cosmo Brown, he’s the king of the one-liners and loves to tease Ms Lamont.

Eleanor Brown is a sweet singing sensation as Don’s love interest Kathy Seldon.

The camaraderie between Don and Cosmo is convincing and they make a very slick and entertaining dancing duo.

The whole production is packed full of comedy, songs and fancy footwork.

Salisbury Journal:

And the bit everyone was waiting for – watching Matthew singing and dancing in the rain – lived up to expectation and was really rather mesmerising.

It was perhaps a little damp for some of the audience, but no one minded and luckily the Playhouse has splashed out on some waterproof ponchos for those in the front row.
