DAPHNE du Maurier’s My Cousin Rachel is being adapted for the big screen this summer starring Rachel Weisz as the femme fatale.
Last week audiences at Studio Theatre in Ashley Road were treated to a stage version of the dark tale.
Directed by Linda Hayman, the production simmered with mystery and intrigue.
Rachel Fletcher was captivating as the beguiling Rachel, her voice and beauty drawing in all those she met while Duncan Ericson who played Philip adroitly juggled the character’s naivety, infatuation and subsequent torment.
Rachel’s besotted accomplice Rainaldi was performed with flair and a flourish by Terry D’Onofrio who made the role highly entertaining.
And Paul Chalmers was the perfect Kendall, grave with wisdom for the most part yet giddy in the early stages around Rachel.
The expert set, used to great effect with elegant sofas, a staircase and wall paintings, was the backdrop to a riveting performance.
