THE Neighbourhood Strange announced themselves on the Salisbury music scene with an impressive debut on Saturday at the Winchester Gate as they performed with experimental duo Carpet.

Formed from the ashes of some of Salisbury's finest acts, the 60s-tinged debutants belted out a catchy set with singalong choruses to an exuberant crowd. Remember the name – I think you'll be hearing a lot from them in 2015. The packed crowd were also treated to an impressive light and projection show which was near on hypnotic as Carpet performed their fusion of guitar, keys and samples to warm up the Saturday night crowd.

A REGGAE-loving Sunday night sell-out crowd bounced along in appreciation as Birmingham's UB40 stopped off at City Hall on their current UK tour.

They began by playing a set of mainly newer material, a common tactic used at these shows... We'd be left waiting for the golden nuggets.

There is a real close unity between the performers and each one is brought in to share the spotlight, showcasing their particular instrument or talent.

As it turned 10pm they began to roll out the classics, with Red Red Wine, Kingston Town, Can't Help Falling In Love With You being the crowd pleasers.

The capacity crowd left on a high and once again it was great to see a good night of music at City Hall Salisbury, albeit through a sea of camera phones (please ban them, venues!).
