STUDENTS from The Burgate School and Sixth Form Centre in Fordingbridge received prizes and awards for the hard work on their A-levels, which saw a 99.1 per cent A to E pass rate.

A dizzying array of prizes and awards were handed out for special effort as well as individual subject prizes to students.

Head of the sixth form Louise Burns said: “It has been a privilege to have been involved in the teaching and leadership of you as a cohort.

“You made your mark as the year group who played no small part in the outstanding Ofsted judgement, for which you are fondly remembered.”

The top honour – the Headteacher’s Award for Academic Achievement – was won by Maxwell Haughey.

Lydia Brown received the Cordy Wheeler Award for Academic Progress.

Maxwell, who secured five A* grades, is now studying chemistry at Oxford University while Lydia, who was the student director of marketing and communications at the Burgate, is preparing to read American studies and English at the University of Sussex.

Jack Aldridge and Lydia Whitehead shared the Head of Sixth Form Award for Service. Jack was the senior student photographer, and Lydia led the Student Council, organised the leavers’ ball and charity events. Megan Davies received the Parent Teacher Association Award for Endeavour and Bethany Cross won the Governors’ Award for Studentship.

The Town Council Award for Service to the Community was given to Briony Adshead and Bethany O’Brien.

Tom Fay and Emily Adams received honourable awards for academic performance. Tom secured five A*s and is reading chemistry at Worcester College, Oxford.

Emily is reading English language and linguistics and French at Kent University.

Headteacher David Pover said: “There is always a great sense of pride and fulfilment in the staff when we recognise the achievements of our students and that together we have helped to prepare them for a successful future.”
