THE new Stonehenge visitor centre is taking shape, and Wiltshire residents are being invited to take a tour of the site at Airman’s Corner.

Work to build the new galleries and facilities that aim to put Stonehenge on a par with other leading historic attractions in the world started in July and the building is scheduled to open in December.

The sensitively designed building will comprise two “pods” which will house museum-quality exhibitions, a spacious café with indoor and outdoor seating, a bigger shop and dedicated education space. Work is currently underway to install the undulating canopy roof.

Representatives from the main contractor Vinci Construction (UK) and English Heritage will give residents a guided tour of the site and answer questions in four one-hour tours each day at 10am, 11 am, 1pm and 2pm on May 11 and July 6.

Sessions will be provided on a first come first served basis and residents need to pre-book by calling English Heritage Customer Service on 0870 333 0604.
