WHY do I recommend some companies and not others?
I have worked with a number of companies over the years, yet I don’t often find myself being an evangelist for many of them.
But why am I not recommending all my business associates/suppliers?
I have spent some time analysing why, and have come to the following conclusion – those I do not recommend are not remarkable.
I have worked with web designers, printers, search engine experts, cleaners, restaurants, estate agents, lawyers and accountants to name but a few.
But rarely do I recommend them to someone.
This week I found myself recommending one of my suppliers to all my peers at an entrepreneurs group – and I was not only recommending him, but singing his praises!
So what were the traits that made him and his business remarkable enough to recommend?
- Passion: His passion for his business, learning and understanding of his industry was right up there with Nigel Botterill. If you know Nigel you will understand why I use him as an example of a passionate businessman.
- Customer Service: I felt like I was his only customer. He answered emails, calls and texts promptly. I was never left waiting for days on end.
- Professional: He was professional at all times. Although I have known him for more than two years, at no point did he encroach on my personal or business life. He just got on with the job in hand.
- Advice: He didn’t just listen to what I wanted, he went the extra mile to research my industry and advise what might be right for my company.
- Ethics: His work ethics seemed second to none.
- Strategy: He had a strategy – a methodology – to his work. It was not a “wing it and see”. There was purpose behind every action.
So this is what makes a company remarkable to me, and makes me recommend it.
