I AM a blogger. It’s a little like a journal, but more like my own space on the internet where I have complete editorial control to write and say whatever I please - within the laws of libel, of course.

People who don’t blog, don’t get blogging. They don’t understand why anyone would want to share their innermost feelings with the world through the medium of a blog. Many people think – ‘what’s the point?’.

The military must be the worst place in the UK to declare that you are going to start a blog and, in fact, that your chosen subject is going to be what it’s ‘really’ like being married to the military, without breaching operational security or personal security, of course.

Or mentioning anything other than how annoying your husband is (this being something that transcends military marriages) and how much you hate war and guns.

Yes, it’s fair to say that my decision to write a blog went down like a pint of cold sick.

But, you know what? …they can all bite me because, three years on, the blog is just getting stronger and stronger.

I am a finalist in the Brit Mums Brilliance in Blogging awards in the ‘innovate’ category.

The awards are on June 21 at The Brewery in London.

Brit Mums Live is a blogging conference where 500 mums, and some dads, come together to talk solely about blogging, improving their blogging and maybe also slugging back a few cheeky vinos, catching up with old friends and definitely making new friends.

The reason that I love Brit Mums Live is because for two days of the year I am in a room with hundreds and hundreds of people who totally ‘get’ blogging and who are actively encouraged to share, hone and improve their voices.

Blogging is about having a voice in your own little internet speaker’s corner.

Now, whether anyone listens to what you have to say is another thing altogether but it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t say it.

Blogging is like a mythical journey, because while you are on it you will find angels, demons, trolls, princes and princesses.

The internet is full of liquorice allsorts of folk – some lovely and some awful.

I am not saying that everyone should start a blog, but I love that people do and I love encouraging them to test the water and try out new things. Brit Mums Live is a celebration of blogging and the opportunities that it can offer.

Blogging is truly liberating.

I love my blog. I really, really do.
