PUPILS at Salisbury's Exeter House School will soon be able to relax to the sound of music, after helping to arrange the donation of a modern sound system to their hydrotherapy pool area.

The project to install the sound system was the brainchild of a unique school council entirely made up of students, and which has a major say on how the school operates.

Headmaster, Andrew Mears, explained: "Each class elects a representative to the council and then the council meets with the staff to help us understand how we can better provide for our students' needs.

"The council invited me to their meeting and told me they would like to install a music system into our hydrotherapy room to improve the relaxation and stimulation sessions we hold there."

"I told them that if they could come up with some money from their budget to pay for it, then we would go ahead."

Encouraged by their head's support, the student council managed to find the £50 needed to pay their proportion of the cost.

Unbeknown to them, however, Mr Mears had already contacted Lime Green Home Entertainment Solutions, and the company had been so impressed by the student's initiative they agreed to provide the equipment and installation free of charge.

Mr Mears added: "The people at Lime Green have been absolute heroes.

"To buy this equipment ourselves and have it fitted might have cost up to £700, and for them to be so impressed with what we are trying to do here that they would donate the equipment for nothing is just amazing."

The school provides for the educational needs of more than 80 students with severe learning difficulties and other physical disabilities, and will use the equipment to enhance the therapeutic sessions they hold in the pool.
