AT the Taste of the West Awards held in Bristol on October 15, the team at Ansty Farm Shop, near Shaftesbury, were delighted to win the category of Best of Savoury Bakery for their Five Seed Loaf, which Karren Price, co-owner and head chef, and master baker Peter Smith developed in the farm shop kitchens last winter.

Karren said: “I am absolutely thrilled, especially given the quality and standard of bakeries in the southwest.

To think that we were awarded the Champion plaque is fantastic.”

Ansty PYO and Farm Shop, to give it its full name, had already won the gold award for their loaf, which formed part of the canapés, in the form of crostinis, served to the 300-strong people at the ceremony.

The family-run farm shop also won “Best Agricultural Business in the Blackmore Vale” in the Blackmore Vale awards last year.

Two other products which were entered this year both won bronze awards – their traditionally-made Eccles cake and chocolate ganache tart.

Ansty Farm Shop, which also has a popular tea shop and café, is on the A30, five miles east of Shaftesbury. To find out more, visit anstypyo.co.uk.
