A ROYAL Mail lorry crashed through fencing and into Hudson’s Field in Salisbury on Friday. It is believed the driver lost control of the articulated lorry after a tyre blew out as he drove along Castle Road just before 10pm.
Richard Gillard, who lives opposite, heard “an enormous noise, like a clap of thunder” and rushed out to see if he could help, along with his wife Jean, a former intensive care nurse. Mr Gillard and others helped pull the driver out of the lorry before police, an ambulance and two fire engines arrived.
The driver was shocked but uninjured. “It was lucky the driver was ok and that there was nobody standing at the bus stop,” added Mr Gillard.
Police closed the road in both directions at the Beehive park and ride and Churchill Way from midnight until 4am while the vehicle was recovered using a crane.
