THE memory of the murders of two police officers is motivating their colleagues in Wiltshire as they take part in a 125-day charity run.
A group of 35 staff from Wiltshire Police have set out on the Run to Remember in memory of PC Nicola Hughes and PC Fiona Bone, who were killed in a targeted gun and grenade attack in Manchester last year.
The Wiltshire personnel have undertaken to run two miles every day for 125 days, finishing on April 4. The aim is for each to raise a minimum of £100 for the Nicola Hughes Memorial Fund.
The proceeds of the event, which involves police staff across the country, will be channelled to the charities Care of Police Survivors, Victim Support and North West Police Benevolent Fund.
Wiltshire Chief Constable Pat Geenty said: “The tragic events of last September made us all draw breath and reflect on the dangers that come hand in hand with policing. “It’s great to see so many of our officers and staff involved in this event and I shall be encouraging them all the way.”
