MERE was alive with Christmas spirit as the town held its annual lights switch on event on Friday.
About 100 people turned out to see the lights switched on by local businessman Philip Coward, from The Hill Brush Company.
The Mere contingent of the Gillingham Silver Band played carols, and the master of ceremonies was Bob Parsons from Sprout and Flower.
The lights were funded by Mere Parish Council and fitted to the clock tower by Jeans Electrical, with the star on the top provided by local resident Richard Coward.
Last week, the residents of Denes Avenue in Mere were crowned winners of the town’s annual Christmas lights competition.
