VOLUNTEER drivers are needed for a car scheme in Salisbury.
Community Transport South Wiltshire operates the largest volunteer car scheme in the county but is in desperate need of more drivers.
A spokesman said: “The biggest single factor affecting quality of life for elderly and disabled people is not being able to get around. “The service is aimed primarily at those with needs that cannot reasonably be met by normal transport options. It is a lifeline against isolation; it enhances wellbeing and enables our customers to enjoy a more fulfilling life.”
People who have maybe never considered volunteering before but have a few hours to spare are being asked to make 2014 the year they give it a try, and support a local charity.
“Supporting local charity isn’t only about giving money. Time is just as valuable and being a volunteer driver for Community Transport South Wiltshire provides an opportunity to do something which is truly valued. “It enhances self-worth, provides a sense of purpose, gets you out and about meeting new people.”
The charity pays expenses, provides free training and guarantees volunteers will make a real difference to the lives of others, and their own. For more details call 01722 410123 or go to wiltshirecommunitytransport.org.uk.
