COMEDIAN Al Murray has withdrawn from giving a talk at the Chalke Valley History Festival for personal reasons, and Ian Hislop has stepped in to replace him.
Hislop, editor of Private Eye and team captain on popular BBC show Have I Got News for You, will be speaking on The Wipers Times.
The Wipers Times was a newspaper for the troops that was written, edited and printed under extraordinary circumstances by a small group of British soldiers during the First World War.
Wry, irreverent and topical, it was, in many ways, a precursor to Private Eye.
Including clips from his BBC film, he will be discussing this brilliant life-enhancing wartime publication and the men who created it. It will mean Hislop is giving two talks, but on two different topics, at the festival.
Some tickets are still available. Call 01722 781133 or go to cvhf.org.uk.
