SALISBURY college students have won top honours in a photography competition to capture a day in the life of a care home.

Gabriel Noel, who is studying A-level photography at Queen Mary’s College in Basingstoke was awarded first prize, winning £200 of Footlocker vouchers.

Second place was awarded to Chris Kelly who is studying photography part time at Wiltshire College and third place went to Melody Uban who practises photography in her spare time. Both were awarded Tesco Extra vouchers.

Salisbury Manor care home on Wilton Road held the competition to mark National Care Home Open Day on June 20. The campaign encourages thousands of care homes across the country to open their doors and welcome in the public, connect residents with their local communities, and change perceptions of care homes for good.

Residents at the home were in charge of judging, along with manager Claire Lousteau who said: “We were looking for a photo that really showed off Salisbury Manor and encapsulated the positive environment that actually exists within care homes.

“We had lots of entries and it was really tough to choose as the standard was so high. There’s a lot of talented photographers in Salisbury so a huge congratulations to Gabriel, Chris and Melody.”
