OUR meeting began with Irene welcoming members to the meeting and introducing our new president Maggie Woolford, who had agreed to take on the role after Doreen Gordon, our president since April, had moved home and now lives in Cornwall.
The evening continued with business items including details of the proposed Christmas meal at the Boat House and Jenny reminding members who had purchased tickets, of our visit to the Playhouse to see Separate Tables.
We then moved on to the subject of the meeting - The Big Knit - and spent the remainder of the evening knitting covers for Innocent Smoothie bottles to assist with the fundraising campaign by Age UK who receive a 25p donation from the manufacturers for each completed 'bobble cap'. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening of knitting and nattering but, whilst the older members with fast fingers and clacking needles quickly completed caps and pompoms, some younger members who are the technology whizzkids found the process a bit bewildering and Irene took the items home to finish them off.
Our next meeting on November 5, at 7pm at the Scout Hut on Stratford Road, will be a demonstration from Beverley's Cakes.
New members are very welcome and further details of our activities can be found at newsarumwi.co.uk.
