IN response to the very well worded letter by Mike Thain in last week's Journal about dog fouling in Victoria Park I, as a regular dog walker in said park would agree with his observation!

Sadly there are many selfish dog owner who will never do the right thing and pickup after their pets but as unpleasant as it is dog poo is bio-degradable, unlike the litter that is left strewn about the football pitch following a weekend of matches that take place throughout the 'season'.

Water bottles, energy bar wrappers, duck tape used to keep boots on and even the odd sock, glove or boot are all left there to be picked up by the hardworking council workmen on a Monday.

Dropping litter is, as with dog fouling a fineable offence but in my opinion much easier to prove. If the council were to fine the football clubs that use the park at the weekend this revenue could then fund a dog fouling warden. Win-win all round. No non-degradable litter, no dog poo.
