EVERYONE’S favourite sleuth will be investigating at the Salisbury Museum next Friday, May 15, at 6.30pm.

Museums at Night will emerge from the shadows from May 13 to16, with hundreds of exciting after-hours events taking place at museums, galleries, libraries, archives and heritage sites across the UK.

As part of a dazzling array of special events in unusual spaces, the Salisbury Museum will present The Singular Exploits of Sherlock Holmes in its suitably gothic Old Chapel.

As the large wooden door at the base of a tower creaks open, you will encounter the greatest fictional sleuth of all time, brought to life by the multi-talented Jonathan Goodwin, artistic director of the Don’t Go Into The Cellar Theatre Company.

This performance is an affectionate, one-man homage to Sherlock Holmes as he recounts the highlights of his crime-busting career. Jonathan not only plays Holmes, but his adversaries too, letting us glimpse the world that Holmes inhabited. This is a high-energy performance, featuring wry humour and quick costume changes – Victorian theatre at its gothic best.

Jonathan both writes and performs, bringing his passion for detectives, ghost and horror stories to life on stage.

Reviewer Anthony Britt said: “Goodwin replaces each character with the next, morphing seamlessly from one to another without the audience barely noticing we were watching the same man on stage.”

Tickets costing £8 for adults and £4 for children are available on 01722 332151

The show at the museum in the Cathedral Close is suitable for children aged 11 years and over. Go to salisburymuseum.org.uk.
