YOUNG politicians of the future got on their soap boxes on Thursday to take part in a mini-election at St Osmund's Primary School.

Wearing their best bib and tucker, the Year 3 class split into five groups to form the Scarlet, Turquoise, Orange, Gold and Rainbow parties, where leaders and deputy leaders debated matters such as building on green fields, food recycling and creating a cycle path to school.

Parents and pupils were then asked to put their votes in the ballot box and, coincidentally, the Turquoise party were declared the election winners.

Year 3 teacher Mrs Alexant said: "The children were buzzing with excitement on the day and it was fantastic to see them present their manifestos and deliver their speeches with such confidence. I was so proud of them!"
