A FORDINGBRIDGE teenager says she was overwhelmed by the support of the community who helped her to raise more than £1,640 in just two hours for Cancer Research UK.
Annabel Spain, who attends Leehurst Swan School in Salisbury, held a fundraising craft fair on Saturday at Woodgreen Hall.
More than 20 different local businesses and craft makers attended and also donated raffle prizes. There was also face painting, a photo booth and bouncy castles.
The 13-year-old said: “I can’t believe how many people came to help raise funds for Cancer Research UK. Everyone was so positive and generous with their donations and feedback, I’m amazed.
" Additionally, my Dad’s employer, Johnson Matthey, very kindly agreed to match fund everything raised at the event, which will bring the total in excess of £1640.”
Her mother Louise added: “I’m so proud of Annabel’s enthusiasm and commitment to the charity. My family have known numerous people affected by cancer, and it is a disease which touches everyone whether directly or indirectly.
"Both Annabel and I would like to thank everyone who supported and volunteered on the day, as without them, it wouldn’t have been the success that it was. We’ve already been asked a number of times whether this will be an annual event – which I have not yet committed to."
