SIXTH-formers and GCSE students are invited to debate rights and freedoms at a Magna Cartna anniversary conference in Salisbury Cathedral on June 15.

Director of Amnesty International Kate Allen, David Davis MP and Daily Telegraph journalist Peter Oborne will all speak at the event before opening the floor to debate.

Sara Rickett, Director of Learning and Outreach said: “It is amazing to think that these young people will be debating Magna Carta and its legacy alongside the tomb of William Longspee, King John’s half-brother and an advisor at Runnymede on the day Magna Carta was sealed.”

The event will take place from 10.30am and tickets are available by email at events@salcath.co.uk or from salisburycathedral.org.uk/events/vi-form-conference.

Performances of drama “To No-One” in the historic Oak Courtroom are on offer to secondary schools between June 9 and 12 and to the public on June 13.

The interactive work is based on real court cases in Salisbury and at any moment audience members could find themselves on the jury, working as a jailor or in the dock.

Tickets for secondary schools are available at salisburycathedral.org.uk/events/no-one-6 and for the general public at salisburycathedral.org.uk/events/no-one-7.

From July 7 to 10 800 children from Dorset and Wiltshire will take part in musical extravaganza “Magna Cantata”.
