I AM delighted to be back in my regular slot trying to bring some news from the world of Westminster into the real world in which we live. In this, the first column of my second parliamentary term, there are some important things that I would like to say.

First, thank you to all who voted for me to be your MP on May 7. I was absolutely honoured to be elected with a big increase in my majority to almost 21,000 and with 58 per cent of the vote. However, my job is to represent everyone living in the constituency regardless of how you voted. So if I can help you in any way, please don’t hesitate to call on me for support. I hold regular advice surgeries so please call my Devizes Office on 01380 729358 or email claire.perry.mp@parliament.uk for an appointment.

Second, big commiserations to MPs of all parties who lost their seats — across the country good people who have worked hard for their constituents have been voted out. While I am absolutely thrilled to be part of a majority Conservative government, I have lost good friends from across the house, and wish them all well in their future careers.

Third, my first job is to deliver on my pledges with my top three priorities being the delivery of better local health services across the constituency; the protection of the direct train links to Bedwyn; and the securing of the appropriate resources such as schools, children’s centres and healthcare facilities for the Army rebasing to Salisbury Plain.

In Westminster I have been re-appointed to the job of Rail Minister in the small reshuffle that took place and now have an expanded range of responsibilities in this area, with a clear mandate to deliver the investment in rail that this government has pledged.

I can’t wait to start delivering both locally and nationally.
