MANAGER Nick Holmes said he was pleased with City's 1-0 win at Sutton United on what had proved a difficult playing surface.

Despite City dominating proceedings, Matt Tubbs' third minute goal proved the difference between the two sides.

"The pitch was absolutely awful. We try and do our bits and if you lok at the amount of chances we created and the amount they had to do, we were streets ahead.

"I could criticise some of our finishing, but we got the one and thank goodness it was enough.

"It was very difficult to play our normal game on that surface.

"We play decent football when we get it on a good pitch and we can dominate games.

"But on this surface it was difficult to do that.

"They were a strong physical side, sometimes leaving the odd head and foot in and I didn't think we were given all that much protection.

Holmes had to shuffle the pack early on - having to make two substitutions in the opening 30 minutes.

Alan Neilson (calf) and Danny Clay (facial injury) had to be replaced and are both likely to miss Monday's match with Histon.

"Danny got a very nasty cut both inside and outside his mouth and Alan's calves have completely seized up so he's going to struggle."
