The Executive Council of the Friends has agreed to make a grant of £130,000 to the Chapter of Salisbury Cathedral to provide new external floodlighting. This will replace the existing lighting which has been in place since 1973.
The new floodlighting will illuminate the main body of the building, the tower and spire. The lights will be positioned close to the building, spaced to light each individual bay. Lighting to the upper levels will be mounted inside the parapet to the Triforium roof. The new floodlighting will throw the architectural detail into greater relief and enhance the beauty of the Cathedral at night.
The lighting will be provided by low wattage metal halide sources, with a warmer colour appearance, and will cost considerably less to run than the existing lighting. It is hoped that work will start in April 2007 and be completed by November.
