SEQUIN-clad Abba fans will be dancing to the tunes of Waterloo and Mamma Mia this October when a celebration of all things pink and party-like takes place at Salisbury’s City Hall.

The evening with Abba tribute band Revival is being hosted by BBC Radio 2’s Johnnie Walker and is in aid of the Stars Appeal Breast Cancer Unit Campaign.

Organiser Nicky Duvall, a breast cancer patient at Salisbury District Hospital, said: “Abba’s music is upbeat and you can’t help but feel happy.

“The event is a celebration and a big thank you to the hospital and nurses who are just gorgeous. They are like family and can never do enough for you despite being under a lot of pressure.

“A lot of people with cancer are unable to take part in sponsored walks or runs and I wanted to organise something that everyone could enjoy.

“People can sing, dance and sway, wear pink, feather boas, sequins and platforms, “With all the songs, costumes and moves, lighting and atmosphere including disco ball and dance floor, this will be the party night to remember.”

Nicky, an interior designer and artist, was first diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago and has since undergone several lots of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

She said: “I’ll be turning 55 in October so this is in effect my birthday party as well!

October is also breast cancer awareness month.

“It will be a big celebration.

“The idea came to me at Christmas when we were all having a party and singing Abba songs and I just thought, this is what I’ll do.

“The support I have received in organising the event has been incredible from everyone - as well as the main sponsors, many local businesses are joining the party with donations, advertising and discount offers.

“With all the favourite songs, the moves, the costumes, Revival really does recreate an authentic Abba show.

“We would love everyone to follow us on Facebook by looking up Abba Revival Salisbury and adding photos of their costumes for the night.”

The concert is on October 16 at 7.30pm. For tickets (£22), call City Hall on 01722 434434.

Sponsors for the event include The Co-operative funeral care, Richard Griffiths and Co, Woolley and Wallis, Piccolo Property Services and Sue King glass designer.

The Stars Appeal campaign, which is backed by the Journal, seeks to raise £750,000 for a dedicated breast care unit at the hospital.

So far more than £500,000 has been raised.
