DON'T Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player, is the rather unusual title of Australian comedian David Scheel's one-man show, visiting Wimborne's Tivoli Theatre in May.

David Scheel began his career in England, starring in the now famous satirical show, News Revue, in London's West End.

By the middle of the 1980s, he decided to try his hand at one-man shows. The result was Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player, which became an instant hit both in London and at three consecutive Edinburgh Festivals.

David Scheel's raconteur style send-ups cover the more ridiculous things in everyday life, and always delivered in a huge range of voices and accents.

He has been likened to Peter Ustinov and his brilliant musical spoofs on the piano (as well as his more serious playing) saw him dubbed as the new Victor Borge early on in his career.

In David's concerts, classical music is turned on its head.

At any time the audience may hear a popular folk tune played in the style of Mozart, Rachmaninov or even an iPod mini.

Or, he will take a piece by Bach and another by Andrew Lloyd-Webber, and play one with the right hand, and the other with the left, simultaneously.

His hilarious translation of the lyrics of Waltzing Matilda is another audience favourite, and now regarded as a comedy classic.

And in between the nonsense, David will play music by the old masters, or one of his own highly lyrical compositions, and reveal his true quality as a pianist.

David will perform at the Tivoli Theatre on Thursday, May 3, his first ever visit to Wimborne and the concert is sure to delight audiences of all ages and tastes.
