FOUR cars crashed on Castle Road, Salisbury, at 2pm today.

Police closed the road from Castle Roundabout to the junction with Stratford Road, while emergency services and recovery vehicles attended.

An officer on the scene said no-one had been injured but the incident had caused "traffic chaos".

Heavy traffic began building up on the ring road and on Castle Street leading out of the city centre, while police waited for recovery to remove one of the cars from the highway.

One lane of Castle Road was re-opened at about 3.25pm, with officers directing traffic on Castle Roundabout and at the junctions with Butts Road and Stratford Road.
