ACROBATS, plate spinning, pole climbers, contortionists and dancers all make up the amazing variety of artistes in Le Grand Cirque, currently being performed on the stage at Southampton's Mayflower Theatre.

Described as "the next generation of Cirque du Soleil", the popular entertainment empire is based in Montreal, Canada, and was founded by two former street performers. It features more than 50 world champion acrobats and performers with an international input from 15 countries, including China and Russia.

During the two-hour show, these artistes will demonstrate their physical strength, agility and talent in a performance that promises to be a glittering spectacle.

Overseeing the show is a gentleman in a white suit and top hat whose mime and acrobatic skills are combined with old-fashioned variety show glamour.

Plenty of audience participation is also guaranteed in a show where no words are spoken.

What keeps the pace going is the emotive musical score aiding the physical movement on stage, selected from the world's most popular classical composers, and masterfully arranged with up-to-date rhythms to reflect the wide appeal of the show.

Le Grand Cirque is a show for all the family, combining artistry, colourful costumes, dynamic lighting and some of the greatest international talent ever assembled in one show.

The show runs until Sunday and tickets are available from the box office on 023 8071 1811.
