TWO serious crashes at the same junction forced police to shut the A303 in both directions yesterday afternoon.
The trunk road was initially closed eastbound at the A36 Deptford interchange after a driver plunged down a steep embankment near Wylye at 1pm.
Two fire crews cut the man free from the red Toyota MR2 and the air ambulance flew him to Southampton General Hospital with serious neck injuries.
Then at 3.30pm, a second crash happened westbound just before same junction.
This time there were three cars involved, one pulling a trailer.
A man and a woman travelling in one of the cars had to be cut free and were transferred to Salisbury District Hospital.
The A303 has now re-opened in both directions.
