WINTERSLOW and Firsdown celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday at the weekend with a special summer fayre.

The two parish councils joined with four churches, the Friends of Winterslow School, Winterslow Preschool, the WI, Brownies, the Scout Group and Central Stores to put on the special royal event.

Events over the weekend included a Grand Royal Pageant, maypole dancing, activities and a Royal Garden Party. In addition a number of royal scarecrows were on display throughout the villages including a Queen’s Guard, the Queen’s horse jumping a hedge and a corgi kennel.

Organiser Steve Langdown said: “The weekend turned out to be amazing and exceeded my hopes and expectations.

“I think I spent the weekend with a fixed grin on my face as I was increasingly overwhelmed by huge community support, spirit and interest in every event laid on over the weekend. There were so many highlights it would be difficult to single one out. This really is a fantastic place to live and I can’t wait until next year’s events.”
