FOUR have cars left with "extensive" paintwork damage after dark corrosive substance was thrown over them at the weekend.

The cars were left with thousands of pounds worth of damage following the attack which happened in the early hours of Saturday morning in The Borough, Downton .

A victim told the Journal that one of the car owners had been left "devastated" by the vandalism.

She said a container that had held the corrosive fluid used to cause the damage was removed from the scene by the police.

Wiltshire Police is appealing for witnesses, saying the vandalism took place between midnight on Friday and 4am on Saturday.

PC Matt Holland from Downton Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "A dark, corrosive substance was thrown or splashed on the cars, causing extensive damage to the paintwork.

"I am interested in speaking with anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anything suspicious."
