AN AMESBURY mother has been left angry and worried for her family's safety after a dog attacked her husband.

Peter Lawler was bitten on the face by a rottweiler-cross, which had no lead or collar on, when it jumped up on his chest outside a chemist's in the town.

A passer-by who saw what happened took him to a local medical centre as he was bleeding quite badly, and he had to have four stitches in his face.

Mr Lawler's wife, Emma, said: "Peter was in a state and had to take two days off work. It's quite nasty and the doctor said he will be scarred for life."

The couple reported the incident to the police, and the dog has been identified and the owner questioned. But Mrs Lawler insisted: "The dog is still roaming around the streets and we want people to be aware of this. It's regularly around the area without its lead on and it just seems unfair.

"I have two children and we live just round the corner. I'm worried about them walking home from school because it happened in the middle of the afternoon."

Police confirmed the owner had been reported for an offence contrary to Section 3 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 for being in charge of a dog which was dangerously out of control in a public place and injured someone.

A force spokesman said their enquiries into the incident are continuing.
