SOUTH Wiltshire is bracing itself for a weekend of heavy rain as forecasters warn of two days of wet, wet, wet.

The Salisbury area has so far escaped the flooding that is devastating the Midlands and North of the country, but low-lying areas of the district could see flooding over the weekend.

This morning a heavy band of rain swept through south Wiltshire causing minor flooding on many roads and drivers had to take care as there were plenty of large pools of standing water.

Flooded roads include the A30 at Compton Chamberlayne, A338 at Cholderton and Old Malthouse Lane in Ford.

Farmers are facing a disastrous harvest with cereal crops flattened by heavy rain and fields sodden from continuous downpours.
