TONY Little was, until the summer of 2015, the Headmaster of Eton. He is one of the most progressive and imaginative people in British education today. He argues that there is a crisis in the British education system.
An obsession with measurement of the ‘easily-measurable’ misses the point of great education. Business leaders and employers complain that our schools are not producing people fit for purpose. The gurus of artificial intelligence tell us that we are preparing our young people for a world that will not exist as we imagine it. What kind of people does society need? What is education for?
Not only is the author one of the great reforming public school headmasters of our time but he has helped create an Academy in the East end of London, founded a state boarding school near Windsor; and has been a state school governor for many years. As he says in his book, "The issues, problems and joys of education are universal".
Tony Little was educated at Eton and Cambridge.
