WOMEN of south Wiltshire are being invited to make a date with Cancer Research UK's Race for Life this Valentine's Day.

Event organisers are asking women to share the love by signing up for a Race for Life 5k and 10k at Hudson's Field, which takes place later this year, on Sunday, July 9.

Cancer Research UK South West Events manager Brenda Scott said Valentine's Day was the perfect date to enter the race.

"By taking part, and raising money for life-saving research, participants will be playing a crucial role in helping more men, women and children survive cancer - giving them the chance to have more time with their loved ones."

She added that Race for Life was a hugely moving experience, and called participants "inspirational", and a "brave army".

"Many will be remembering loved ones lost to cancer or celebrating the lives of people dear to them who have survived."

Every day, 90 people are diagnosed with cancer in the region.

Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, will hold 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy, and hiking events throughout the country, with the aim of raising millions of pounds to aid research in the fight to defeat cancer.

One in two people will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives, but more people are now surviving the disease than ever before.

Survival rates have doubled since the early 1970's and Cancer Research UK's work has been at the heart of that progress.

£2m was spent in the South West last year, enabling key scientific and clinical research to take place.

Race for Life events are non-competitive and participants can choose to walk, jog or run around courses.

Every step participants take will help to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
