FORM-FINDING Downton stunned newly-promoted Hamble Club with a 2-0 victory at Wick Lane.

Shaun Prentice’s double was enough for Robins to become the fourth team to beat the Sydenhams Division One leaders this term.

After an evenly-contested first half, Prentice netted the opener on 60 minutes.

A superb cross from the left was prodded home by Prentice when he got across his man.

Prentice’s second goal arrived with 10 minutes to go when he beat his man for pace and raced through and slotted the ball past the helpless keeper.

“Another great performance from the lads,” beamed boss Rae Hughes. In the end it was a comfortable win against the best team in the league.

“Charlie pulled off one of the best saves I have ever seen in the first half to keep us in it, which he has done on numerous occasions this season.

“This result just shows what we are capable of, we have found ourselves too far down this league because of our inconsistency, but I have asked them to perform like this for the next four weeks and finish on a high and see where that takes us.”

Downton, sitting in 12th place, travel to United Services Portsmouth, who thumped Laverstock and Ford last weekend 5-2, on Saturday (3pm) before hosting Hythe and Dibden the following Saturday (3pm).
