FOUR people have been arrested after drugs paraphernalia and a blood-soaked towel were found in a city hotel room.

At around 11.45am today police were called to The Cathedral Hotel in Milford Street after staff raised concerns that drugs were being taken in one of the rooms.

Officers found two people asleep in the room, which had also been damaged.

But while they were questioning staff, the suspects slipped out of the building.

They were quickly found nearby in Endless Street with a large amount of cash.

Two men from Andover, aged 41 and 55, were arrested on suspicion of supplying class A drugs.

Meanwhile, back at the hotel, a 27-year-old man from London and a 30-year-old woman from Andover arrived at the room and were also arrested on suspicion of supplying class A drugs.

All four are in custody.

Sergeant Steve Jolly of Wiltshire Police said: "Thanks to the quick thinking of the member of staff at this hotel, we managed to arrest these suspects quickly while they were still in the area.

“We would always encourage any residents who suspect drug activity to be taking place in their community to contact us on 101 – working on intelligence and information from local people is key to tackling this type of crime."
