A BOY of 16 has been arrested after a woman was threatened with a knife during a robbery in Salisbury.

Officers were called to Salt Lane car park at 2.35pm today after a woman was approached by a boy armed with a knife who grabbed her bag.

The victim, who was an on-duty member of police staff, was not injured but was left shaken.

She managed to get her bag back from the offender before he fled.

Police were quickly on the scene and the helicopter was deployed to help with the search.



A 16-year-old boy from Southampton was detained at Salisbury railway station at 3.40pm and has been arrested on suspicion of armed robbery.

Inspector Pete Sparrow of Salisbury police said: "This was an excellent piece of work from the team, who worked swiftly to identify a suspect using local knowledge and CCTV footage.

"I would like to commend the police staff member who responded very bravely to a frightening incident, and we will now be offering her any support she needs.

"I would like to urge anyone who has information about this incident to come forward and assist us with our enquiries."
