A MAN who rammed a police car before crashing into a tree has been arrested after a pursuit by officers.
Police were called at 8.20am today (Monday, July 16) by the owner of a white works van, who reported that a man had jumped into the vehicle and driven off in Westbury.
The van was followed by officers through Warminster, down the A36 and towards Wilton.
A number of police cars, assisted by the police helicopter, tracked the van through Stratford Tony and Coombe Bissett and onto Homington Road.
The van reversed, ramming a police car before crashing into a tree shortly afterwards.
The driver then left the vehicle and ran off from police, but was detained a few minutes later, at 9.07am.
A 35-year-old local man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and failing to stop for police.
He is currently in police custody.
