AS from July 30 we had been promised a new and more understandable recycling regime.

Black box: glass only. Blue bin/bag: all plastic cartons including bottles, tetra packs, tins, cans, aerosols, foil, cardboard, newspaper, shredded paper (wrapped in a paper bag).

How much simpler that will be, and my husband won’t ask “where does this go” anymore.

But, oh no, once again we have been misled. The only difference is that we can put plastic bottles, plus tetra packs, butter cartons, yogurt cartons, meat trays and the like, and cardboard into the Blue bin/bag. But no black plastic. And all other recyclables will still go into the black box.

How is a new resident expected to understand this clumsy system, especially if they have come from a more efficient recycling area? I assume shredded paper still goes into the Blue bin but who knows. It is surprising that after all the chaos surrounding the granting of the new waste contracts, we still haven’t got a simple, straightforward system.
