FUN in the sun was had by all on Thursday as an Amesbury care home hosted its first Arabian Nights- themed event for residents.

Buckland Court transformed into the Arabian Penisula last week to reflect on residents enjoying the hot weather, offering a range of entertainment and activities.

Surrounding friends and family of the home were also invited to enjoy the party.

The day offered performances from belly dancers, a petting zoo with goats and alpacas, a BBQ, Arabian foods sourced from local restaurants, and camel rides, the animals bought to the afternoon by Lady Chichester.

Care home manager Esther Thomas said a "fun afternoon was had by all".

She added: "The residents kept commenting on the weather that it was like living in a hot desert, so we wanted to turn that into a real experience for them.

"We like doing things that our residents may not have yet experienced in their life, after all this home is a new beginning for our residents and we want them to have as much fun as possible.

"Everyone loved the theme with the children dressing up, even the police came along and let their hair down."
