THREE members of St John Singers spent bank holiday on their bikes, cycling 212 miles to raise over £7,000 to help homeless people in London. Organised by the St Martin-in-the-Field charity, Friends of the Connection, the annual Queen Eleanor Cycle Ride follows the route taken by Eleanor’s funeral cortege via the surviving crosses placed at each overnight stop by her grieving husband, Edward I.

Charles Woodd, Simon Cox and Jules Farthing rode through sun, cloud and heavy rain, bearing a small wooden cross from Harby in Lincolnshire to place on Eleanor’s tomb in Westminster Abbey. They slept in churches and church halls along the way, and were amply fed and watered by local well-wishers. This was the tenth anniversary of the event, with the 23 riders raising around £25,000.
